 TĪNG, LONDON, THE SHARD

When booking afternoon tea at TĪNG Restaurant, inside the Shangri-La at The Shard, securing a window table is well worth considering. There is a £25 per person premium to guarantee one, but for a first-time visitor to this extraordinary building, the views alone make a compelling case. Stepping out on the 35th floor and gazing across London from such dizzying heights is an experience in itself.

We visited in July for TĪNG’s Wimbledon-themed afternoon tea, a seasonal celebration of one of Britain’s most beloved sporting traditions. Created by Executive Pastry Chef Piero Sottile, the menu brought a playful touch to the occasion, with beautifully crafted pastries inspired by the tournament, including tennis-ball designs, strawberry-and-cream flavors and a miniature chocolate replica of The Shard.

One of the highlights was the St-Germain Sunset Serve Pavlova, a tennis-ball-inspired creation with a vibrant center of St-Germain liqueur, mango and passion fruit compote. It was a lovely example of how the kitchen transforms a familiar afternoon tea into something a little more imaginative. Alongside the themed sweets, traditional finger sandwiches and freshly baked scones provided the reassuring classics that every good afternoon tea should include.

The Wimbledon theme extended to the drinks, too, with special cocktails such as a Pimm’s Twist and St-Germain elderflower spritzes adding to the summery atmosphere.

Of course, the real star of the experience is the setting. With London spread out beneath you, afternoon tea here feels like a special occasion, whether you are celebrating a birthday, marking an anniversary or simply treating yourself to something memorable. Our window table gave us a wonderful vantage point from which to appreciate the city, and I would highly recommend budgeting for one if the views are an important part of your visit.

TĪNG regularly changes its afternoon tea themes, so while the Wimbledon menu we enjoyed in July is no longer available, that is part of the appeal: each visit can offer something different, with seasonal inspiration reflected in the pastries and presentation.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely, particularly for visitors seeking a luxurious afternoon tea with a spectacular London backdrop. The combination of creative patisserie, traditional afternoon tea favorites and those extraordinary views makes TĪNG an experience to remember. Just be sure to request a window table when booking—and check which afternoon tea theme is being served during your visit.
